Hosting FAQ

Thinking about hosting a Beers for Beto event? Great! We’d love to have you on our team.

We know it can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but we are here to help you every step of the way. Our team created a comprehensive guide on all the steps you need to take with advice from past hosts. It’s a great resource for new and veteran hosts. But, you also have a real, live person you can email/text/call if you have any questions. Our goal is to get people excited about Beto through our engaging, information, and FUN monthly gatherings, and we want our hosts to have a great time too.

What is Beers for Beto?

Grassroots groups across the state are hosting events, once a month, to show our support for Beto by increasing voter awareness, organizing within their areas, and contributing to the large effort of fundraising! On our set date, we invite you to find a venue to invite friends, family, or even strangers to have a beer or bubbly water and learn more about Beto.

Beers for Beto is coordinated by Texans for Beto, which is an all-volunteer grassroots group not affiliated with Beto for Texas.

Ok, is there a set date?

Our next “Grassroots Statewide Beers for Beto” will be held on Wednesday, August 15th. We’ll do these every month, so don’t worry if you miss a month, we’ll catch you for the next one! Contact events@beersforbeto.org to be one of the first to hear about our date for July.

Will Beto be there?

As much as we’ve tried, the Texas for Beto Grassroots group just can’t seem to get our teleportation machine working. Beto is very busy with his duties in the House of Representatives and touring Texas in his Dodge Caravan. The Texas for Beto Grassroots group will provide hosts with multimedia content (slideshows, videos) that will let guests know what Beto has been up to, but he won’t be able to attend the events.

How much is this going to cost me?

Nothing. Our B4B hosts don’t have to spend any of their own money on the event.

That being said, if you do splurge a little on items like the campaign’s push card or fun Beto-y party favors, it’ll make your event even more exciting!

Where can I hold our “Grassroots Statewide Beers for Beto” event?

Your grassroots group can hold the event anywhere that you like – bars, restaurants, your own home – whatever works best for you to bring out fellow Beto supporters, have a good time, and connect to the livestream! We hope to have hundreds of these happening simultaneously each month, so be creative and switch it up month to month!

Ok, so then what do I actually DO?

Basically, you:

  • Find a venue (bar, restaurant, coffee shop) willing to host the event.
  • Register your event with us.
  • Create a Facebook event.
  • Invite people.
  • Have a fun, democracy-filled evening

What does the venue have to do?

The venue’s role in this is pretty easy too. You will need a place with TVs or a projector/screen where you can show the multimedia presentations. The venue can’t offer your event any special discounts – that would count as a corporate donation and Beto can only take donations from individual people. If there are happy hour deals, that’s fine, but NOTHING special for your group.

Do I have to collect donations?

No. We don’t want you to collect money from people. We want you to encourage donations and direct people to a donation website that we’ve set up. We can get you some donation envelopes if you’re working with a check-writing crowd, but we don’t want you handling cash. Beto appreciates all financial contributions, and they’re important, but the only thing that counts on Election Day is Texans at the polls and that’s our main focus.

What will people do at my event?

We will provide you a YouTube link to a video showing what Beto’s been up to this past month and a powerpoint presentation to share at your event.

There might be an opportunity to show a livestream or pre-recorded video of Beto in action – more to come on this!

Look out for additional information on how to make your event a success – including suggested #hashtags and tips from past hosts.

Can I have merch at my event?

Yes. This one *is* a bit tricky. The best thing to do is contact your local “[Town] for Beto” group, see what they have available, and if they can set up a table at your event. You can get stickers and buttons in bulk from the campaign store, but your purchase of them is a donation to the campaign, and they should be used as giveaways at your event instead of for-sale items. Our guide has TONS of ideas for activities, encouraging donations, and community engagement, and remember there are people who would love to help you.
